The Best Wedding Day Ever Despite the Rain
You may be of the optimistic mindset to believe that rain on your wedding day is a sign of good luck. Most people, though, hope for better weather and clearer skies, especially on such a significant day. No one would have anticipated that the majority of Katie and Stevie’s wedding day in the fall of last year was met with torrential downpour! These two lovebirds were glowing with smiles and gratitude regardless from start to finish. Katie started her day at Belle Vue, a beautiful space in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina along with her eight bridesmaids to get ready.
The first look she shared with her sisters and best friends was full of joy, a few happy tears, laughs, and hugs. Everyone knew the day was going to be perfect as soon as they saw her in her gorgeous lace wedding gown by Essense of Australia.
Instead of a first look before the ceremony, the couple decided to write each other letters, which were read out loud in their final wedding film (good luck watching it without watery eyes!). Together, they described sharing these letters as “heartfelt and beautiful” and one of the top three most meaningful moments of their wedding day. They knew they were about to marry their soulmate and nothing was going to put a damper on their day, not even stormy skies.
As the clouds opened and rain drenched the grounds outside moments before the ceremony began, guests gathered indoors at Bakery 105, a historic wedding venue steps away from Cape Fear River. A live violinist and band played before and during the ceremony which brightened the mood and tuned out the sound of rainfall. Katie and Stevie chose a rustic and elegant décor theme. Flowers and candles abound, the bride noted, “I wanted simple but beautiful.” There were lots of touches of gold and blush, giving everything a beautiful and uplifting feel.
The wedding planner and owner of Bubbly Events, also named Katie, was quick to jump in and help keep the ceremony moving despite the showers. She escorted everyone into the building with an umbrella over their head. Soaked through and through by the end, she kept up her positivity and excitement. That’s how you know you chose the right wedding planner!
The bride was escorted into the building and when she locked eyes on Stevie at the end of the aisle, nothing else mattered. They were surrounded by friends and family and were beyond thrilled to finally say “I do.” These two had been going to the same school since kindergarten and dated for seven years before getting engaged!
We love going to East Carolina University football games with friends during football season. We were sitting with all our friends at a home game and after the first touchdown, Stevie told me to turn around and our friends were holding up a sign that said, “Will you marry me?” I was totally shocked and not expecting it at all! Afterwards, our families surprised me and were all waiting for us to celebrate when we left the game.- Katie Ervin
After the ceremony, pictures were held indoors and the room was flipped into a gorgeous reception space. The night continued with dancing, dinner, and cutting of the cake. The bride’s grandmother actually baked the wedding cake herself, adding to the sentiment and meaning surrounding the day. Friends and family are a core part of this couples’ lives so to be able to incorporate them into their wedding day was just icing on the cake (literally and figuratively). The live band during the ceremony was made up of two of the groom’s cousins.
Katie and Stevie had the most amazing chemistry and high spirits all day, making the most of unexpected circumstances. At the end of the night while everyone waited outside for their sparkler exit, they shared a last dance. The DJ played “Marry You” by Bruno Mars and the two newlyweds ended their celebration on the most romantic note.
So, don’t let a little (or a whole lot of) rain put a damper on your wedding day! Remember the day is truly about who you share it with, and you'll feel blessed and excited no matter the surprises.
